CSGGE Guest Speaker/Lecturer Opportunity

Call for guest speaker/lecturer for Spring 2027
November 5, 2026

November 5, 2026

We are excited to invite guest speakers and guest lecturers for a new general education course, CGGE 200: Introduction to Global Gender Studies, currently undergoing the university’s general education review and approval process and expected to be offered for the first time in Spring 2027.

We welcome individuals with teaching, research, or professional experience related to one or more of the following course themes:

  1. Understanding Gender Across Cultures
  2. Understanding Feminisms in Global Perspectives
  3. Gender and Education
  4. Gender and Health
  5. Gender and Work in Global Economies
  6. Gender, Development, and Environment
  7. Pathways Toward Global Gender Equity

Guest speakers/Lecturers will be invited to record a brief 5–7 minute video, with flexibility to coordinate the format and content with the course instructor. Videos can be recorded at a time and place convenient to the speaker and may address foundational disciplinary content, emerging developments or approaches in the field, an exciting or impactful research project, or a case study, program, or initiative related to one of the course themes. Because this is an online course, recorded contributions will be made available to enrolled students through Canvas as part of the course materials. To support accessibility, we ask guest speakers/lecturers to record using Zoom with captioning enabled so that lecture and supplementary materials are accessible to all students.

While this is an unpaid opportunity, this is a valuable teaching and CV-building opportunity, particularly for advanced doctoral candidates, postdoctoral scholars, and visiting scholars, although individuals at all career stages with relevant expertise are welcome to express interest.

If you are interested, please email Asmaa Elsayed at asmaae2@illinois.edu  by November 15, 2026, and include:

  1. Your name
  2. A few sentences about your educational and/or professional background
  3. The course theme you are interested in contributing to
  4. A brief description of what you would like to present

Selected guest speakers will receive a formal invitation identifying their role as a guest speaker/lecturer along with additional information about preparing and submitting their contribution to the course.

Expression of interest deadline: November 15, 2026; Notification of acceptance will be sent by December 1, 2026.

Recorded video deadline: January 15, 2027

Thank you for considering contributing to this new course. We would be delighted to feature a range of perspectives, areas of expertise, and experiences as we introduce students to the interdisciplinary and global study of gender.
